What is difference between lean v/s effectuation?
"Clear recipe of going from an idea to success is the elixir most first time entrepreneurs try to seek. Two approaches that are widely known Lean Startup & Effectuation Lean startup - this approach asks to start with articulating an end goal of the idea calling it as vision, asks to list down steps that can lead to this and treat those steps as assumptions/risks and suggests to create experiments called MVPs to validate them. If some assumptions lead to a dead end then adjustments are suggested called as pivots and thereafter repeat the same process. Effectuation on other hand focuses on the ability of what an individual can make happen himself through whom he knows and subsequently extend through committed partnerships, thereafter suggest to take little bets that he can afford to lose. Here the starting idea or the initial imagined vision play less significant role. Key difference between the two is in the mindset - lean startup is causal (goal directed) and effectuation being effectual (exploratory from starting abilities and network). The two approaches also differ in how risk in a business is defined and addressed, validation and reduction of risks in lean startup while elimination of risks by avoiding unmanageable risks in the very first place in effectuation. Lean takes the world-view that the world is fixed and our assumptions about it need to be discovered through experimentation, and once we know the truth, we can confidently go ahead and build our startup. Effectuation takes the view that the future of the world is malleable, and is created by groups of people doing things together, and provides heuristics that help the group create quicker and with less downside.
I don't have an idea, Is it ok for me to apply ?
Yes. Early stage ideas change constantly so it is all right. But some exercises are easier to execute with an idea.
